Look of the Day: Terekhov pre-fall 2011

Oscars 2011: The Best and Worst Dressed

I didn't watch the Oscars, and from what I heard, there were no surprises. But I did check out the style pics and let me tell you: Camila Alves - WOW! Hands down she is the winner on the Red Carpet. I mean, even Matthew McConaughey did not outshine fact he looked a little haggard. This woman is like Brazialian Carmen - the dress, the hair.......I'm blown away!
Also, I decided not to put Helena Bonham Carter on my Worst Dressed list - she is so loony with her style...her fashion faux pas are boring at this stage. Check out my verdict and tell me what you think.
Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco
Camila is the queen of the night...LOVE LOVE LOVE her gown!
Michelle Williams in Chanel
Michelle's dress is simple, elegant and is perfect for her petite frame. She's like a mini statue. Love her cropped hairstyle too!

Anette Bening in Naeem Khan
Anette is ultra chic in this art deco dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
This frock reminded me of a see-through dress Kate Moss was sporting in the early 90s. It has the same fluidity and transparency effect and is gorgeous on Gwyneth.

Julia Ormond
Gosh, Julia's dress is so conventional and boring, I'm yawning...

Marisa Tomei in Charles James Couture
I like Marisa's bustier top, hate the bottom!

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana
Scarlett is such a beautiful woman and could look divine in any creation, but this D&G dress is not cut out for Red Carpet. I give D for effort!

Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer
this is what I call 'lace on steroids' dress...plain wrong.

Trend Alert: orange blazer as seen on Camilla Belle and Olivia Palermo

Two of my favorite fashionistas are sporting orange blazers and color blocking ensembles. I adore Camilla in head to toe Gucci! Zara's latest collection is definitely inspired by Gucci. Just yesterday I saw a fab fuchsia blazer and green skinny jeans on a mannequin, which resembled Camilla's outfit. As for Olivia's look - I'm speechless!

Look of the Day: Lauren Conrad in her own line Paper Crown

The Best of Madrid shopping destinations!

I was in Madrid last weekend and dedicated my entire Saturday to nada but shopping! A friend of mine suggested Salamanca for designer boutiques...but myself and six other girls decided to hang around Gran via and discovered a number of cool little boutiques around this main shopping area. Coorleone's Company boutique would have to be my favorite! Each one of us picked out an interesting piece of costume jewelry. I opted for a vintage looking elephant pendant. Prices ranged from €19 to €30 euro!

Below I selected some of the most interesting Spanish fashion brands. I highly recommend checking them out next time you are in Madrid. Of course, Zara became a pivotal point of our excursion, and yes, the prices were lower than in London and Dublin, but selection was much the same. All in all, I have to say, Madridians have some killer style! From grungy looking teens, preppy young adults, to uber elegant older ladies, I was walking around full of admiration for their style! Simple and not overdone elegance is what appealed to me the most.

Hortaleza 37 Madrid, 28004

I've been in love with Loewe bags for some time now. Of course, Loewe was the first shop I entered and was blown away by their latest handbag collection. Both Amazona 28 (€890) and May 36 (€1400) are on my wish list big time!

I didn't realize Hoss Intopia was a Spanish brand, as I've seen this store all over London. I fell in love with their luxurious clutches (starting at €200) and spring collection with a big tribal leitmotiv.

Uterque was, no doubt, my hottest find! I've seen this store in Dubai once before, where I bought to-die-for cocktail ring. I snagged one this time as well. I loved every item in the store: shoes, clutch bags, carry-all totes, cardigans! The prices ranged from €24 euro for gorgeous cocktail rings to €80 for chunky knit sweaters.

Stradivarius is a Spanish version of Abercrombie & Fitch. You know it the moment you enter, as you can smell their perfume sprayed all over the shop. I picked a funky t-shirts for €5.99. You just can't beat the price!

Oddity of the Day: Rhianna in Dior Haute Couture

This outfit is an oddity for two reasons: it doesn't have enough of a madness /shock factor, nor it's pleasant to look at....the end result is = TACKY! (and who would have thought that Dior Haute Couture could be tacky?!).

Oddity of the Day: Mini Mulberry Alexa

I saw this mini Alexa on Brown Thomas child mannequin and that's one expensive handbag for a ten-year old (Suri Cruise probably has one already). But then I figured that Mulberry are not targeting kids, rather adults with this satchel. Mini Alexa is way too small and for £506 a pop I'll do without one...thank you very much.

Style Hit or Miss: head to toe in leather

MISS: Nicole Kidman
Oh I so don't get this look! It's one big disappointment on the Red Carpet. I could live with the skirt, but not paired with this oddly shaped jacket. The sleeves are too long and I'm puzzled by Nicole's choice to wear this ensemble with a cream bow blouse...

HIT: Posh
I'm not a big fan of Victoria's dominatrix head-to-toe leather outfits, but this one works! Both her pants and Balmain leather jacket are super edgy. She softens the look with a clutch.

The Best Leather Biker Jackets from High Street to Designer

Leather Biker jacket is the one thing I'm missing in my life....or so I tell myself )P! Joking aside - leather jacket is a wardrobe essential. I was totally wowed by Sandro jacket (pictured below) I came across in BT today. Love its texture and shape. This beauty, however, is on the pricey side. If it's of any consolation - good leather jacket will last forever. You can always find PU versions on the High Street (like this Topshop one), but general rule of thumb - genuine leather/good quality jacket should cost you no less than €100. I would also stick to black, it being the most versatile color. My all time favorite look is pairing tough biker jacket with demure summer dress - the juxtaposition works wonders! I picked my favorite biker jackets below, number one being Sandro, and two - Acne 'Rita'. If your budget is around €200, I would check out jackets at Oasis, Warehouse and All Saints.

I Want I Want I Want: Persol Specs

Last night I spotted very funky glasses on a waiter in my local Tapas bar. I had to ask what was the make, turns out they were Persol turtle shell vintage specs. I couldn't find his version on the net, but found similar! The guy recommended this site for funky vintage eyewear

Look of the Day: Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli leopard mini dress

Oddity of the Day: LV Shoe Safari

Marc Jacobs went a little bonkers with his shoe designs for Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer RTW collection. It's no doubt creative and quite unique, but hardly translates to commercial. As usual, my conservative self is admiring this collection as an art form.

Thom Browne launches into Womenswear with his Spring RTW 2011 Collection

US menswear designer Thom Browne has recently announced he'll be launching womenswear. I came across photos of his debut Spring collection for women and was very intrigued. Picture a hybrid between Brooks Brothers and Miu Miu - not the most appealing combination - but in case of Thom Browne it works. The designer introduced whimsical prints, played with pinstripes and pleats, while retaining his signature tailoring and structure. Thom's woman channels classic American preppy style with a playful twist. I would love to get my hands on one of his mermaid print blazers! Check out Tommy Ton's pics of preview of Spring collection.
